The Journey Behind J2E Technology

ree

By Laura Hooker, President & CEO

Welcome back to the J2E Technology Blog! I’m excited to kick off our first post in a while by sharing how this journey began, both personally and professionally and what J2E is all about.

Why a Blog

Every story has a beginning-and for us at J2E, sharing that story is not just about reflecting on where we started, but honoring the journey that brought us here. This blog is our way of offering a glimpse into who we are, how we got here, and why we do what we do.

But more than a timeline or company history, this space is about people. By sharing the experiences, challenges, and perspectives of our team, we hope to show that J2E is more than just a company, it’s a community of individuals driven by purpose. In a world that’s constantly changing, we remain committed to making a meaningful difference, together.

A Bold Beginning

In 1982, I graduated with an associate degree in accounting and was working at a bank in Buffalo, NY. That same year, An Officer and a Gentleman was lighting up theaters and maybe that sparked something, or maybe it was just time for a new challenge, but I soon found myself sitting across from a Navy recruiter. Just like that, my life changed.

By 1983, I was a proud member of the U.S. Navy, serving as a Radioman in naval communications. Over the next ten years, I had the incredible opportunity to be stationed in Naples, Italy; Rota, Spain; and Brunswick, Maine. During that time, I got married, started a family, and discovered a deep sense of discipline, service, and global awareness that would shape the rest of my career.

A Career Rooted in Configuration Management

After following my husband through his continued Navy service, we eventually landed in San Diego where my journey in defense contracting began. I joined Booz Allen, and my very first task was to read a MIL-STD for configuration management (CM) and write a CM Plan. It was a sink-or-swim moment, and I swam. From that point on, I became deeply immersed in the world of CM.

Over the next several years, I became a subject matter expert in CM across both contractor and government roles. By 2002, I was serving as a federal employee and had the privilege of holding positions in configuration management, project management, and program management. Yet, no matter how many hats I wore, CM was always home.

Founding J2E Technology

In 2015, after years of experience and thoughtful planning with my husband, we officially launched J2E Technology. Starting a company was a leap of faith, but it was also a logical next step rooted in the belief that we could offer something truly valuable to our government clients: a responsive, mission-driven, and technically experienced partner.

J2E Technology LLC is a women-owned, veteran-owned services-based company built on decades of defense industry experience. We specialize in systems engineering, digital transformation, configuration and data management, and program support for federal clients. Our commitment to technical excellence, accountability, and service defines who we are.

Gratitude for the Journey

Looking back, I can’t help but feel thankful for the many people who helped along the way mentors, colleagues, friends, and family. It really does take a village. Success doesn’t come from doing it all alone, it comes from surrounding yourself with experts, supporters, and people who care.

This blog is a new chapter in our journey. We’ll use it to share insights from the field, spotlight our team and partners, and offer real stories and lessons from the frontlines of defense and technology services.

Thank you for joining us as we launch this new way to connect. We’re just getting started and there’s so much more to come.
